Blue Hyssop

Hyssop is considered an herb, however you will soon see that it makes an attractive flower as well. The plants are often categorized as a mint, producing a strong fragrance which attracts an array of beneficial insects to the garden. Used in insectaries and butterfly gardens, Hyssop will likely attract butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees and humming birds as well. The plants themselves reach a mature height of roughly 24 inches tall, displaying pale purple flowers through the summer months.

Roman Chamomile

Roman Chamomile will produce carpets of low growing plant life, displaying hundreds of thin stems and leaves. The plants form small, white flowers that are accented by bright yellow centers. Each herb will grow to a mature height of roughly 3 to 6 inches tall, and can spread about 9 to 12 inches wide. The flower heads are most popularly used in herbal teas, but you will also come to find that Roman Chamomile makes an excellent groundcover as well.

German Chamomile

German Chamomile, also known as Common Chamomile, is a fragrant herb that releases a sweet scent in the garden. It's flowers are white, while it's centers are golden yellow. German Chamomile blooms through the summer months, when the temperatures are warm. Each plant grows to a mature height of roughly 12 to 20 inches tall, making them taller than it's relative, Roman Chamomile.

Peppermint

Peppermint is an ancient heirloom that dates back to as early as 1500 B.C. The herb is thought to have originated from North Africa and the Mediterranean, introduced as a natural hybrid cross, between both spearmint and water mint. Its strong scented leaves are crushed and used to flavor chewing gum, breath mints and teas. They are also used in all sorts of shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes and skincare products as well. The plants grow to a mature height of roughly 2 feet tall, displaying dozens of 1 to 2 inch, shiny, bumpy leaves. The stems are red colored and smooth, while it's blooms are a light pink to purple.
