Chioggia Beet

(1,000 Seeds)

Chioggia is an heirloom variety that has been in circulation since the early 1800's. It's outer skin is a bright red, while it's inner flesh is candy-striped in appearance. Cut in half, the innards look just like a bull's-eye, with alternating red-white rings. The roots grow to a good 2 to 3 inches in diameter, sitting beneath 12 inch, leafy greens on the surface. Both the roots and the actual greens can be eaten. The tops, as well as the bottoms are used in salads. The leafy greens of Chioggia Beets make a delicious and nutritious alternative to spinach, while it's roots are mild and sweet flavored.

Golden Detroit Beet

(600 Seeds)

Golden Detroit is an heirloom variety that was introduced in the late 1820's. It differs from traditional red beets, with it's non bleeding flesh. The outer skin is brightly colored orange, while it's inner flesh is a golden yellow. Golden Detroit Beets are an excellent additive to salads. Just slice them up and toss them in. They are earthy, yet mild in flavor and can be enjoyed raw as well. The leafy green tops can also be enjoyed as a spinach alternative, and are a relative to Swiss Chard. Golden Detroit Beetroot plants are known to grow just over a foot tall, developing 2 to 3 inch roots, which can be harvested in roughly 50 to 55 days after transplanting.

Dark Red Detroit Beet

(1,000 Seeds)

Dark Red Detroit is an heirloom variety that produces 3 inch, round roots. The outer skin is dark red in coloring, as is it's inner flesh. Mild and sweet, the roots can be sliced up and enjoyed raw, or in salads. The tops grow to a mature height of roughly 12 inches tall, producing vibrant, leafy greens, with dark red stems and veins. The leafy tops of Dark Red Detroit Beets can be used as a spinach alternative and are very delicious and nutritious as well. Detroit Dark Red Beets will be ready for harvesting in roughly 55 to 60 days.
