Description

Grow Panorama Mixture Bee Balm from fresh Monarda didyma flower seeds. Bee Balm is a perennial flower that is grown in the garden from seed and will produce a colorful mixture of blooms in red, white, pink & rose. This variety of Bee Balm will grow to a mature height of about 30 inches tall and is great when used along walkways, as a border plant, or in flower beds. The aromatic blooms of “Panorama Mixture” will attract an array of beneficial insects, such as butterflies, hummingbirds, bumblebees (especially) and lady bugs.

Bee Balm flowers make an attractive cut flowers and can be used in floral arrangements and bouquets. The flowers range from 1 to 2 inches in diameter and also display attractive green foliage. Bee Balm has become a popular plant and is often seen in parks, zoos and other public areas. They are easy to maintain and don’t require much care.

Sowing The Seed

Monarda seeds can be started indoors, or directly outdoors. If started indoors, sow at a depth of 1/16” under topsoil, in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Transplant, or direct sow into the garden or in containers when the weather is warm. Keep in mind that Monarda seeds will require sunlight to germinate.

Growing Conditions

Bee Balm plants will enjoy an area that receives full sunlight to partial shade for the majority of the day. They tend to thrive best in rich, well draining soils. It’s recommended to mix any hard compact soil with compost for better drainage. Water the seeds daily to ensure that the soil is kept moist until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Seeds will begin to germinate within 14 to 28 days after sowing. The plants will reach a mature height of around 24 to 36 inches tall and can be spaced about 12 to 18 inches apart from one another. Panorama Mixed Bee Balm will produce beautiful blooms in shades of white, red, and pink. Great when used as a cut flower.

So excited to have mixed color bee balm!

I planted these at least two months ago and the seedlings are still small, maybe 1 inch if that. I've transplanted them twice just in case it was the soil that was holding them back. Finally, I got tired of fooling with them and put them in the ground this past weekend and I hope they'll grow more. I say I'm not impressed because I've grown other bee balms (red and wild bergamot) from seeds I gathered last year from my existing plants and had no issues with those growing at a faster rate than these.
