Grow a garden filled with beautiful Strawflowers from freshly harvested Helichrysum bracteatum flower seeds. Strawflower will produce a beautiful blend of flowers in shades of pink, yellow, white & rose. The blooms themselves are "daisy like" in appearance, and have rows of gorgeous, pointy petals. The centers are often times yellow and soft looking. Strawflower plants range in size anywhere between 24 inches to around 36 inches tall. The plants themselves are known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds & even ladybugs as well.

Strawflower is grown as a tender perennial in warm locations and an annual in cooler regions. The plants will grow quickly from flower seeds, producing their gorgeous blooms throughout the summer months, only to later die with the first killing frost. The seeds can drop to the bare ground beneath to regrow the following season, or the seeds can be collected from dried flower heads in late Fall. Grow Strawflower directly in the garden, in flower beds, along borders, walkways, driveways and fences.

SOWING THE SEED

Start Strawflower indoors in biodegradable CowPots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Sow at a shallow depth of 1/16" under to make sure the seeds receive direct lighting. Crucial to germination. Transplant or direct sow outdoors when the weather is warm and the soil can be worked.

GROWING CONDITIONS

Strawflower can grow and thrive in full sunlight and partial shade. Temperatures of at least 70F are optimal. Not too picky on soil conditions, but does enjoy a nice fertile compost mix. Water daily with a mist setting to provide ample moisture at first.

GERMINATION & GROWTH

Strawflower will typically germinate in 7 to 10 days after sowing. Plants will reach a height of 24 to 36 inches tall and can be spaced about 8 inches apart. Produces gorgeous, colorful blooms through the Summer months. Also attracts beneficial insects to the garden.
