Description

Grow Pink Four O' Clock flowers from fresh Mirabilis jalapa flower seeds. Pink Four O' Clock will produce gorgeous rose colored blooms that flower throughout the summer months. The trumpet shaped blooms are 1 to 2 inches wide and sit atop stems and foliage that grow anywhere between 12 to 36 inches tall. Aptly named, the Pink Four O' Clock flowers will start to open up in the evening hours, around 4pm.

Four O' Clocks are grown as a tender perennial flowering plant. These beauties will grow a deeply established root system, later wilting on the surface with the first frost. They return the following year from roots and will flower normally. Because they originate primarily in tropical climates, the plants may die completely if the winter temperatures are too harsh.

Four O' Clocks are known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees, ladybugs and hummingbirds. They are sweetly scented and pretty durable. The Four O' Clock is grown in flower beds, pots & containers, along driveways and walkways, and anywhere else that needs a splash of color. You can always combine the Rose Four O' Clock with other colors to create a wonderful mixture. We also offer a mixture of all of the Four O' Clock varieties that we offer.

Be careful with this seed as they can be toxic if consumed. Keep the seeds away from small children and pets as well.

Sowing The Seed

Four O' Clock seeds can be nicked or soaked to increase the percentage of viability. Once this has been done, you can begin sowing indoors, or directly outdoors. If started indoors, sow your seeds in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Place the seeds 1/4" under topsoil, allowing the seeds to receive direct lighting for the majority of the day. This is crucial for germination to occur as the seeds require this light ot properly germinate. Direct sow outdoors, or transplant when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Growing Conditions

Four O' Clock plants thrive in an area that consists of full sunlight to light shade. Temperatures should be kept higher than 70F with a soil that is fertile and rich in organic matter. The soil should also be well drained as well. To increase drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to areas containing hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Your Four O' Clock seeds will begin to sprout within 7 to 14 days after sowing. The plants will grow to a mature height of roughly 12 to 36 inches tall and can be spaced roughly 12 to 18 inches apart from one another. Four O' Clocks will produce tubular, trumpet shaped flowers that measure about 2 inches in diameter. The blooms are sweetly scented and will attract an array of beneficial insects, including butterflies, hummingbirds, ladybugs & bumblebees as well.
