Lupinus, or more commonly known as Lupin or Lupine, is a perennial flowering legume. The plants form attractive green foliage that's accented with it's beautiful, deep colored blooms. The blooms typically come in shades of pink, purple and blue, but are also available in white, red, yellow and even orange. Growing to a height of roughly 3 feet tall, Lupines are best used as a backdrop plant.
They are categorized as a tender perennial and can regrow from deeply established roots the following year. Once in full bloom, the Lupine will drop is blooms to produce seed pods which closely resemble pea pods.
