Grow Five-Spot flowers from freshly harvested Nemophila maculata wildflower seeds. Five-Spot is an annual flowering plant that will grow quickly, bloom profusely through the summer months and later die with the first killing frost. Growing only to a mature height of 4 to 6 inches tall, this aptly named Nemophila plant produces small, 1 inch, white flowers, accented by blue spots at the end of it's 5 petals. You will also notice the blue veins that run through this gorgeous flower as well.
The flowers will produce seeds that can drop to the bare ground beneath, later regrowing the following season. Because of it's low growth habit, it can be used in all sorts of containers, such as, window boxes, hanging baskets & pots. They are also popularly seen in flower beds, along borders, driveways & walkways and sown by the masses for a beautiful, subtle display.

SOWING THE SEED
Five-Spot is best established directly out in the garden when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed. Start by clearing your sowing area of all unwanted plant life. Turn the soil, or replace it with new soil, later scattering the seeds to the bare ground. Cover thinly with topsoil so that the seeds can receive direct light for germination. This plant is popularly sown in pots & containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets as well.

GROWING CONDITIONS
Five-Spot grows well in an area that receives full sunlight to partial shade for the majority of the day. They thrive in cool temperatures of 60F to 70F and aren't too picky on soil conditions. However, it is recommended to make sure that the soil is well drained. Adding a light compost to areas containing hard, compact soil can improve drainage. Water the seeds daily until germination has occurred.

GERMINATION & GROWTH
Nemophila flower seeds will begin to show signs of life within as little as 7 to 10 days, but can take up to 30 days to germinate successfully. The plants will grow to a low-growing height of only 4 to 6 inches tall and can be spaced about 6 inches apart from one another. Five-Spot, once established, will produce beautiful white colored blooms, with the appropriate five blue colored spots on each petal.
