Description

Grow a garden filled with Autumn Beauty Sunflower plants, from freshly harvested Helianthus annuus flower seeds. Autumn Beauty Sunflower Seeds, when grown, will produce beautiful blooms, in rustic shades of red, orange, yellow & burgundy. These gorgeous plants will stand to a mature height of 5 to 8 feet tall, displaying their large, spade shaped leaves. The blooms themselves will open up, 4 to 6 inches in diameter, exposing a deep, chocolatey brown center.

The Autumn Beauty Sunflower is categorized as an annual flowering plant, meaning that each plant will grow quickly from a single seed, bloom profusely through the summer months, and later die with the first frost. If protected from squirrels & other animals, the flower heads will produce a large amount of seeds, which can be plucked & saved for the following growing season.

Autumn Beauty Sunflower plants will make a great cut flower, for many bouquets & floral arrangements as well. They produce many branches, allowing you to cut off a handful of vibrant blooms at any given time. These vibrant blooms are also known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden as well, such as butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds & honeybees. Because the Autumn Beauty Sunflower will grow to such a tall height, it is recommended to sow & grow them along fences & driveways, or by the masses in a naturalized setting.

Sowing The Seed

Sunflowers are not particularly fond of being transplanted, but if started indoors, sow in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Sow at a depth of 1/2” under topsoil. Transplant entire pots into the garden, or direct sow when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed. Stakes may be necessary to support your Sunflowers, only until the stems become strong enough to stand on their own.

Growing Conditions

Sunflowers grow long taproots and may rot if the roots become waterlogged. It is recommended to check your sowing area for hard, compacted soil prior to sowing. Renew any hard, compacted soil with a mixture of compost. Sunflowers will enjoy an area of full sunlight for the majority of the day and should be watered daily so that the soil is kept moist until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Your Autumn Beauty Sunflower seeds will begin to germinate within 7 to 10 days after sowing. The plants will grow to a mature height of 5 to 8 feet tall and can be spaced about 6 to 12 inches apart from one another. Autumn Beauty Sunflower is an annual flowering plant that produces 6 inch bi-colored blooms in rustic colors of orange, yellow, red, gold and burgundy.
