Description

Grow a garden filled with Lobelia from freshly harvested Lobelia pendula flower seeds. Cascade Mixture will produce lovely blooms in shades of blue, lilac, purple, red & white. Lobelia, cascade mixture consists of popular trailing plants, making them perfect for hanging baskets. The plants grow to a mature height of about 6 to 10 inches tall, and spread roughly 10 to 12 inches long. Cascade Mixture not only looks great in hanging pots, but these plants can also be used in pots & containers, on patios and in raised flower beds. Lobelia also makes an excellent addition to many rock gardens as well. Allowing the colorful flowers to trail over the sides of various rocks will produce a dramatic scenery.

Cascade Mixture is categorized as an annual flowering plant. Annuals such as this will grow quickly from seeds, bloom profusely and later die with the first frost. If seeds are collected from the spend flowers, you can regrow these plants the following year. Lobelia, Cascade Mixture is fairly easy to grow from seed, although you should be warned that the seeds are EXTREMELY tiny.

Sowing The Seed

Lobelia plants can be established from seeds, which are normally sown indoors 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. You will notice that the seeds are extremely tiny, so it may be best to start them in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. The seeds can be distributed directly to the surface of the soil. Do not cover them with any soil as they will require direct light to germinate properly.

Growing Conditions

Lobelia, Cascade Mixture will thrive in an area of full sunlight to light shade, with temperatures of at least 72F or more. The soil should be moderately fertile, to average, but must be well drained. Adding a light compost to hard, compact soil will increase drainage. Water the seeds daily with a mist setting or spray bottle so that you do not disturb the seeds by overwatering.

Germination & Growth

Lobelia seeds will begin to germinate within 7 to 14 days after sowing. Cascade Mixture will produce plants that grow to a mature height of roughly 6 to 10 inches tall, trailing roughly 10 to 12 inches. The plants are best sown in pots, containers & hanging baskets, but can also do very well in rock gardens as well. The flowers are small and come in a range of colors, such as red, lavender, white, blue & purple.
