Description

Grow our Crazy Sunflower Mixture of Sunflowers from freshly harvested Helianthus annus flower seeds. Crazy Sunflower Mixture is a combination of our most popular sunflower varieties. It consists of 10+ Sunflowers, including customer favorites such as: Autumn Beauty, Velvet Queen, Lemon Queen, Red Sun, Evening Colors and more. This particular mixture of seeds will produce flowering plants that grow to a varying height of 1 foot tall to over 7 feet tall, in colors of red, yellow & orange and will even produce bi-colored blooms. Grown as an annual flowering plant, Sunflowers will grow quickly, bloom profusely and later die with the first frost.

Sunflowers are best sown outdoors as a border plant, along fences, or in fields by the masses. They will bloom throughout the summer months and seeds can be collected at the end of the season. Take note however, that unless you create something such as a scare crow, the flower heads may be under attack by your neighborhood squirrels. If you love this mixture, you might also be interested in our “Double Dance” mixture which contains 14 of our most popular hybrid varieties. Combining our “Double Dance” mixture with our “Crazy Mixture” will add a splash of all sorts of colors and will produce up to 25 different flowers.

Sowing The Seed

Sunflowers are not particularly fond of being transplanted, but if started indoors, sow in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Sow at a depth of 1/2” under topsoil. Transplant entire pots into the garden, or direct sow when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed. Stakes may be necessary to support your Sunflowers, only until the stems become stronger enough to stand on their own.

Growing Conditions

Sunflowers grow long taproots and may rot if the roots become waterlogged. It is recommended to check your sowing area for hard, compacted soil prior to sowing. Renew any hard, compacted soil with a mixture of compost. Sunflowers will enjoy an area of full sunlight for the majority of the day and should be watered daily so that the soil is kept moist until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Your Sunflower seeds will begin to germinate within 7 to 10 days after sowing. The plants will grow to a varying mature height of 1 to 7+ feet tall and can be spaced roughly 6 to 12 inches apart from one another. Crazy Mixture is a mix of 10+ varieties that will produce orange, yellow, red and even bi-colored blooms all summer long.

Excellent fall colors!

I have sowed this several times this season so I would have never ending blooms. There is an excellent mix of singles and multibloom varieties. There are so many seeds that you can start a new batch every week! As with all seed needs products, I've had excellent germination and love the quantity of seeds in a pack!

I planted these in the picture right after I harvested the corn. I did not prep the bed or clear it. Really no fuss flowers!

I mixed these up with the Orn Corn and Pumpkin Spooky Blend. Then I threw an inch of garden soil over a hillside I’m trying to build up for next year planting, tossed the seeds in, raked them into the soil, wished them good luck, and let the rain water them in. Two weeks later, they have sprouted and are looking great! I’m excited to see what we get on a hillside that was otherwise useless. :)
