Lupine Russels Blend (Lupinus polyphyllus) adds vibrant color and vertical interest to gardens with its tall spikes of pea-like flowers in shades of pink, purple, yellow, blue, and white. These hardy perennials attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, enhancing biodiversity. Their lush foliage and striking blooms make them ideal for cottage gardens, mixed borders, or as a focal point in naturalistic designs. Lupines also enrich the soil by fixing nitrogen, benefiting nearby plants.

GROWERS TIP

Stratify the seeds by placing them in a moist towel in the fridge for 4 weeks. This will help break dormancy in the seed. After following this practice, scarify or nick the seed with sandpaper to break down its hard outer shell. Sow indoors in biodegradable CowPots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Transplant or direct sow when temperatures reach at least 65°F. Water heavily on hot days or the plants can wilt quickly. Lupines can replenish nitrogen in the soil.
