Grown as an annual flowering plant, Persian Jewels will grow quickly, bloom profusely throughout the summer months and later die with the first killing frost. The plants can regrow the following season by dropping it's seeds to the bare ground beneath. You can also harvest the seeds at the end of the season to save for the next Spring. Do this by allowing the seed pods to develop, prior to picking.

Sowing The Seed
Nigella flower seeds are best established directly outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed. Clear your sowing area of all unwanted plant life and weeds. Turn the dirt or lay don a new sowing medium. Scatter the black seeds to the surface of the soil not covering them with more than 1/16" of topsoil. They will require a bit of direct lighting to properly germinate.
Nigella flowers will enjoy an area of full sunlight and enjoys temperatures of at least 68F to 70F. They are adaptive to many soil conditions, but just be sure to check the drainage of your sowing medium. To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily with a mist setting so that the seeds receive an ample amount of moisture until germination has occurred.
